Lecturers of the Department of Chemical Education Conducted Community Service Programme (PKM) In Sangubanyu Village, Moyudan

On 26 May 2024, 5 lecturers of the Department of Chemistry Education FMIPA Yogyakarta State University carried out community service (PKM) in Sangubanyu Village, Moyudan, Sleman. This PKM raises issues related to Supplementary Feeding (PMT) for toddlers, especially those who still get breast milk from their mothers. The lecturers involved in this PKM team are Erfan Priyambodo, Siti Marwati, Das Salirawati, Dini Rohmawati and Hari Sutrisno. The PKM activity began with a speech by Dukuh Sangubanyu. In his remarks, Dukuh Sangubanyu expressed his gratitude to UNY, especially the Department of Chemical Education for carrying out PKM in Sangubanyu. On this occasion, Dukuh Sangubanyu stated that stunting cases are still prevalent in his village, and with PKM being done, hopefully, it can provide insight to families who have toddlers to meet nutritional needs to prevent stunting in children.

One of the PKM team, Das Salirawati, shared the root cause of stunting cases in children. Stunting happens when the fetus in the womb does not get enough nutritional intake and after they are born, PMT which has balanced nutritional value is not given to them. Siti Marwati further explain that for toddlers, protein intake should be maximized for growth. On that occasion, the other practitioner Eri Rahmawati provided PMT recipes for toddlers.

The participants of the activity, namely mothers who have toddlers in Sangubanyu village, were enthusiastic about participating in the PKM. This was evident from the lively discussion. At the end of the session, the Posyandu cadre expressed the hope that more activities promoting health education, similar to PKM would be carried out in Sangubanyu Village.
