The Community Service Program (Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PPM) in Indonesia) held by the Community Service Team of Lecturers of the Chemistry Education Department of FMIPA UNY has taken place with great enthusiasm on Sunday, 17 July 2022 in Kenteng Village, Nigotirto, Gamping, Sleman, Yogyakarta and Saturday, 23 July 2022 in Jatisarono Village, Nanggulan, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. This year, the PPM was chaired by Dr. Dyah Purwaningsih, M.Si with the assistance of several other lecturers, namely Dr. Retno Arianigrum, M.Si, Prof. Dr. Sri Handayani, M.Si, Prof. Dr. Nurfina Aznam, and Prof. Dr. Sri Atun M.Si,. The headline of this PPM activity is Workshop on Making Natural Soap from Extracts of Natural Ingredients as Income Generating for the Community with Family Welfare Program (PKK) member as the main target.

PPM activities contain practice or training in making natural soap from lemongrass. The community service team guided the training participants to learn how to make natural soap by themselves. Previously, researchers from the Chemistry Study Program of State University of Yogyakarta had conducted research related to the manufacture of natural soap made in this training. Therefore, the soap produced has been tested, safe, and useful for increasing income generation for the community. Hopefully after holding this workshop, the participants will have more skills and knowledge in making soap naturally and environmentally friendly.
