Collaboration between lecturers of Chemistry Education Department of UNY and Faculty of Animal Husbandry of Tidar University initiated by Mosque-Owned Enterprise (BUMAS)

One of the manifestations of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education is community service. By looking at the problems in the community, academics can share knowledge and technology to solve problems in the community. One of the problems faced in the community is the problem of providing animal feed, especially during the long dry season. The community service team from the Department of Chemistry FMIPA UNY in collaboration with Prodi. Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Tidar Magelang provided training on making dry and fermented animal feed from indigofera leaves. The team consisted of Dr Siti Marwati, Dr Kun Sri Budiasih, and Mr Sunarto, M.Si. The team from Universitas Tidar Magelang was represented by Mrs Dr Lilis Hartati and Mrs Nur Hidayah, M.P.
This community service activity was conducted on 28 September 2023 in the sheep group in Sangubanyu Village, Sumberrahayu Moyudan Sleman. The potential of 5600 m2 of land with 2300 indigofera plants and 200 kleresede plants managed by the local mosque is a great opportunity to diversify the cultivation of these livestock plants. This service activity is done by providing knowledge to farmers to manage feed, especially in the long dry season and increase income from the cultivation of indigofera plants. The technology introduced to the community is in the form of feed fermentation technology and making dry feed in the form of indigofera leaf powder. This feed product is expected not only to fulfil the feed needs of the livestock group but can be supplied to farmers on a larger scale.
