He was known as one of the World's Most Influential Scientific Thinkers. His Stanford Composite score (c-score) places him among the top 6 most influential researchers in the world in the categories of materials, biomedical engineering, and enabling & strategic technologies. Clarivate Analytics also recognized him as one of the Top 1% Highly Cited Researchers in the world in the material science and cross-cutting categories. To this day, his publications have received 182 H-indexes and 162,346 citations. His highest professional honors include being elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS); the British Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng); the Indian National Academy of Engineering; the ASEAN Academy of Engineering & Technology; and the Singapore Academy of Engineering. He is also an elected Fellow of ASM International, ASME, AIMBE, USA; IMechE and IoM3, UK; ISTE, India; and the International College of Biomaterials Science & Engineering (FBSE). He obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK, and GMP training from Harvard University, USA.
