Mentoring Workshop Indonesian Journal of Chemistry and Environment

On Monday, August 30, 2021 the Chemistry study program, FMIPA, UNY held an Indonesian Journal of Chemistry and Environment (IJoCE) Mentoring Workshop. IJoCE is a scientific journal published under the Chemistry study program, FMIPA UNY. This workshop activity aims to improve the quality of IJoCE and is targeted to be indexed by SINTA. This workshop activity presented Mrs. Endah Retnowati, Ph.D. who is the coordinator of the journal FMIPA UNY as well as managing editor of the Journal of Cakrawala Pendidikan (indexed by Scopus Q3).

In her presentation, Ms. Endah Retnowati, Ph.D. conveyed several components that need to be prepared for indexing into the SINTA database, including the following.

  1. Scientific Journal Naming. Regarding the path id, it can be proposed to the UNY Puskom if you want it to be replaced and adjusted to the name of the journal. The proposal process is submitted to the head of UPT TIK UNY with the signature of the Kajur and knowing the dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UNY.
  2. Publishing Institution. The assessment in the ARJUNA system is qualitative. The institution in question relates to whether those in SINTA, GARUDA, Google Scholar, IJoCE have been detected. Next, the Google Scholar and GARUDA logos must be included on the IJoCE website. As for website creation, it can be done through the journal manager account. We recommend that you create P-ISSN and E-ISSN hyperlinks on the IJoCE website. The publisher is written by the Department of Chemistry Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNY.
  3. Journal Editing and Management. The policies menu is removed and entered in the side menu ABOUT US such as for example Focus and Scope, Editorial Board, Publication Ethics, Author Guideline, Peer Review Process, History, Journal Subscription. The focus and scope will be checked by the reviewer, especially regarding the suitability between the scope and the published paper. The first sentence focus and scope goes home. The second and last sentence is included in the author's guideline.
  4. Editorial Boards. In this regard, the editor in chief needs to add SCOPUS ID and Google Scholar. Peer reviewers may or may not write, if possible, the name is not the same as the editorial boards. Editorial Boards prioritize diversity, not the number of people. If peer reviewers are not listed, the explanation on the peer review process must be clear. Author Guidelines need to be placed in several menus on the website to make it easier for authors to publish their articles.
  5. Article Substance and Writing Style. Guidelines are provided in Indonesian and English. The Author Guideline is divided into: (1) general, (2) writing articles containing the desired abstract, how keywords, IMRAD, etc., what to write and what not to write, how to write tables and figures with explanations and examples, bibliography for each type. A checklist of review guidelines before submitting for reviewers and authors also needs to be prepared.
  6. Appearance. Compare the performance of IJoCE with other chemistry journals. Try to make your own cover and be consistent, if you replace it, don't forget to replace the ones in ARJUNA and SINTA. The volume and edition number need to be included on the cover. The stat counter also needs to be added.
  7. Periodic. Pay attention to the CURRENTS and ARCHIVES menus. Article number of the second edition onwards continues from the first edition.
  8. Dissemination. Make sure the PDF and DOI can work the link. The open access logo also needs to be added.

After Mrs. Endah Retnowati, Ph.D. finished delivering his presentation, the activity continued with independent work led by Mr. Erfan Priyambodo, M.Sc. This activity is expected to improve the quality of IJoCE and the target to be indexed in the SINTA database can be achieved.
