Sharing the Experience in Establishing a Masters Study Programme in Chemistry with Gadjah Mada University

As one of the activities of the Development of the Independent Campus Competition Program Grant Study Program (PKKM), the chemistry study program invited Mr. Tri Joko Raharjo, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. who is the coordinator of the chemistry master's program at Gadjah Mada University (UGM). On this occasion, Mr. Tri shared his experience while being part of the UGM master's chemistry study program to all staff of the chemistry study program at FMIPA UNY on Thursday, July 14, 2021, online via a zoom cloud meeting.

The aim of the Master of Chemistry UGM is to produce a master of chemistry who has faith and piety, is open and responsive to changes and advances in science, excels nationally and is internationally recognized, is able to develop to continue to higher education levels, and is able to produce research. chemical field. Currently, the accreditation status achieved by the Master of Chemistry UGM is excellent accreditation. The superior accreditation status is valid until 2025. The main advantages offered by the UGM master chemistry study program include: PLO includes attitudes and values, mastery of knowledge (specialization of interests), work skills (problem solving, research, publications), managerial abilities. In addition, the UGM master chemistry study program offers off-campus programs with an emphasis on international activities, for example: (1) dual degree with Kanazawa University, (2) credit transfer at Yamagata University, (3) student exchange, (4) short course ( summer school with Hokaido University), PARE, Learning satellite), (5) International conference (ICCT, ICCS).

Regarding the new student admissions pathway, it can be done in 3 ways, namely: (1) the regular pathway through lectures, (2) the path through research designed for fellow practitioners from both researchers and industry, and (3) the PMDSU pathway which is designed to attract students. the potentials of students including excellent and potential undergraduates so that they do not continue their studies abroad with a 4-year fast track to doctoral level.

Regarding the specialization that characterizes the UGM master's chemistry study program and distinguishes it from other master's programs, it is the sustainability of chemistry. Therefore, if the Department of Chemistry Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNY is to establish a master's degree in chemistry, it is necessary to think about what are the advantages and characteristics of the master's degree chemistry study program so that it can differentiate it from other chemistry master's programs in Indonesia.
