STRATEGY WORKSHOP TO IMPROVE JOURNAL AUTHOR AND REVIEWER

On Monday, November 29, 2021, the Chemistry Study Program held a Strategy Workshop on Increasing Journal Authors and Reviewers via Zoom Meeting. The resource persons presented at this activity were Dr. Uyi Sulaeman who is the Editorial Board of the UNSOED Moleklu Journal which has been indexed by SCOPUS Q4. This activity was attended by 17 participants including from the journal team at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNY.

In his presentation, Dr. Uyi conveyed about how to develop and improve the quality of journals, including through:

  1. Editors who have a high commitment a. Regular Editor's Meeting (Chief Editor) b. Article Process Evaluation c. Quality improvement program design (Graphs and Drawings)
  2. Have reviewers who are qualified in their fields and responsive
  3. Have good governance (there is an institution that oversees it)
  4. Participation in scientific journal management workshop
  5. Cooperation (Network with lecturers/researchers outside the institution)
  6. Indexation development (DOAJ, SCOPUS, ESCI(Clarivate Analytics)), etc

The task of the Editor is to search for prospective reviewers who can be sourced from:

  1. Sinta: Affilations-Departments-(Chemistry, Biochemistry)-Institutions (UGM,IPB, UI, UNDIP, UNY, ITS ETC)-Author-title of research-article-can email and institution.
  2. Scopus database or Web of Science.
  3. ScienceDirect or Taylor & Francis, or any other journal publication portal.
  4. Google Scholar.
  5. publons.
  6. Mendeley
  7. Informal

The criteria that can be used to recruit and select peer-reviewers include the following.

  1. The reviewer should be a researcher who demonstrates his expertise in the field of journal science.
  2. Reviewers have published articles in accordance with the field of journal science
  3. Reviewers should have published their articles in the journal.
  4. The reviewer should not be one of the authors of the article that has been written with the author of the article to be reviewed.
  5. The reviewer should not be a fellow institution colleague of the author of the journal article to be reviewed.
  6. Reviewers should or should not have personnel recommended by the author, even though the journal requires the author to suggest 3 personnel as prospective reviewers.

In addition to reviewers, several strategies that can be done to improve authors are as follows.

  1. Promote journals to the academic community that have research subjects that are in accordance with the scope of the journal.
  2. Improving service to writers
  3. Invite experts to submit review manuscripts (Review articles)
  4. Collaboration with lecturers/researchers of other institutions
  5. The journal actively organizes events such as workshops/expert training

Through this activity, it is hoped that the quality and interest of journals in the Chemistry Study Program and also FMIPA will increase.
