Workshop on Accelerating the Final Thesis Project of Chemistry Study Program Students

The Chemistry Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNY, held a Final Thesis Acceleration Workshop (TAS) for 2018 students. This workshop was held on Thursday, August 12, 2021, attended by 105 students. The purpose of this TAS acceleration workshop is to improve the quality of proposal writing, especially to equalize perceptions about citation writing and student TAS formats.

This workshop activity began with an explanation of the TAS writing format and citation techniques according to APA edition 7. Dr. Cahyorini conveyed some tips for doing thesis accurately and quickly. Right here means getting results according to the target or plan and fast here means working in a certain time. Some of the skills needed to work on a thesis include: (1) reading and understanding, (2) taking notes in the form of a logbook and the results of literature studies, (3) self-management, (4) time management, (5) teamwork, (6 ) analyzing, (7) writing, and (8) communication. Regarding the completion of the thesis quickly and accurately, it is influenced by 4 things, namely: (1) commitment, motivation, discipline, (2) focus, (3) understanding what to do, and (4) attitude towards the supervisor, the environment, and friends. The most important factor is always praying to God and asking for blessings from parents. Dr. Cahyorini said that students often make mistakes in writing citations and bibliography on the thesis. In this TAS acceleration workshop, Dr. Cahyorini conveyed about the procedures for writing citations and bibliography. Dr. Cahyorini also said that the technique of writing citations and bibliography can be done with the help of End Note or Mendeley software.

The activity was continued by strengthening the material for each chemical field consisting of Inorganic chemistry accompanied by Prof. Dr. Hari Sutrisno, Physical Chemistry by Prof. Dr. Eli Rohaeti, Analytical Chemistry by Prof. Dr. Suyanta, Organic Chemistry by Prof. Dr. Sri Atun, and the field of Biochemistry by Dr. Retno Arianingrum. Through this workshop, students have been provided with knowledge about TAS writing and the opportunity to practice to analyze data which can be a provision for writing and completing TAS well. Through this TAS acceleration workshop, students are expected to be more determined to prepare their research plans and discuss with their supervisors. The TAS proposal seminar is planned to be held on September 10, 2021.
