Lecturers and Students Conduct Community Service: Ecoprint Training, Herbal Soap, and Digital Marketing to Increase Community Income Generation

Baturan Village, Gamping District, Sleman Regency — June 28, July 12-13, 2025 As a form of implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, a team of lecturers and students from the Chemistry Study Program and the Fashion Design Study Program conducted a Community Service (PKM) activity in Batura Village, Gamping, Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, with the theme "Community Empowerment through Ecoprint Training, Herbal Soap Making, and Digital Marketing to Increase Income Generation."

This three-day activity, from June 28, 2025, to July 12-13, 2025, was attended by dozens of participants from the local Family Welfare Movement (PKK). The main objective of this activity was to improve the community's skills in the creative economy and product marketing through digital platforms. Ecoprint Training: Exploring the Potential of the Surrounding Environment.

The first session of the training introduced the Ecoprint technique, an environmentally friendly method of printing motifs on fabric using leaves, flowers, and other plant parts. Three methods were taught: the tap, the rogocolet, and the steaming method. Participants were taught basic techniques, from leaf selection and the mordanting process to the three techniques.

"Ecoprint is not only environmentally friendly but also has high sales value. We hope the community can develop this product as a regional specialty," said Musfida (Ecoprint Presenter).

Herbal Soap Making: Healthy Products from Natural Ingredients

The next session was training on herbal soap making, utilizing local ingredients such as lemongrass oil, coconut oil, and olive oil. Participants enthusiastically participated in the process of mixing the ingredients, molding, and drying the soap.

"Herbal soap is highly sought after in the market because of its natural ingredients and minimal side effects. This business has huge potential, especially if it is attractively packaged," explained Dr. Retno Arianingrum, M.Si. (Head of the PKM Program).

Digital Marketing: Marketing Products Online

In closing, participants were equipped with digital marketing skills, including how to create business social media accounts, branding strategies, and tips on product photography using smartphones. They were also introduced to marketplaces like Tokopedia and Shopee, as well as WhatsApp Business features.

"Having a good product isn't enough if it's not marketed well. Through this training, we want the women in this village to utilize social media platforms to improve the marketing of the products they've developed," said Ms. Adinda (Chemistry Student).

Expectations and Follow-up

This activity received positive appreciation from the village government and the community. The Head of Baturan Village expressed his gratitude to the community service team for providing new skills relevant to the residents' needs.

"We hope this training can be sustainable and the community will be able to produce and market products independently," she said.
