Curriculum Review to Prepare Superior and Highly Competitive Chemistry Graduates

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Yogyakarta State University (YSU) held a two-day workshop on curriculum evaluation and development for its study programs on February 27-28, 2025. The workshop's overall objective was to review the 2025 Chemistry study program curriculum, based on the MBKM (Comprehensive Health and Safety Management System) and align it with Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation No. 53 of 2023. The two-day curriculum workshop featured two expert speakers: Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Apt. Adam Hermawan, S.Farm, M.Sc., (Faculty of Pharmacy, Gadjah Mada University) and Prof. Dr. Maya Rahmayanti, S.Si., M.Sc. (Sunan Kalijaga Islamic University, Yogyakarta).
The first day of the workshop featured presentations from the speakers, and the second day focused on follow-up actions for each study program's curriculum evaluation. Overall, feedback was provided regarding the appropriateness of the scientific vision, but there was a need to address overlapping course descriptions. As a next step, the results of this evaluation will serve as the basis for curriculum improvements, particularly to avoid overlapping material between courses. These improvements aim to ensure each course has clear objectives and can more effectively support student competencies. With these improvements, it is hoped that the Chemistry Undergraduate Program curriculum will become more relevant to scientific developments and applicable educational policies, and will prepare graduates who are ready to face the challenges of the workplace.
