On 23 March 2024, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ekasisth Somsook from the Department of Chemistry, Mahidol University, Thailand visited the Chemistry Study Program, Department of Chemistry Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, State University of Yogyakarta. In this Visiting Professor event, Assoc. Prof. Dr Ekasisth Somsook explored academic cooperation. In addition, he also had the opportunity to give a lecture to Chemistry Study Program students on the topic of Coordination Chemistry. Students were introduced to how to utilize the online software application ‘webMO.net’.

WebMO.net is an online-based software that can be accessed free of charge. WebMO allows students and non-specialists to run state-of-the-art computational chemistry programs from the web browser on their computer. This leads student to be more flexible in their study of molecular shapes and their energy stability. That way, they can understand it more easily. High enthusiasm is shown by the students towards the software, they are fascinated to dig deeper into the field of coordination chemistry, mainly the structure prediction and conformation molecules.

One of the lecturers in the Chemistry Study Program with expertise in Inorganic Chemistry, Mrs. Isti Yunita, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. was present during the visit and discussion. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ekasisth Somsook also had the opportunity to visit the Inorganic Chemistry laboratory and further discuss practicum in the Inorganic Chemistry laboratory.
